Based on the true story of Quill, a Labrador Retriever puppy who grows up to become a seeing-eye dog. Quill is lovingly raised by volunteer ‘puppy-walkers’ who give him the name ‘Quill’ after a distinctive mark on his side that resembles a bird spreading its wings. When his first birthday arrives, he leaves them to begin seeing-eye dog training. Although the other dogs steadily advance, Quill is left behind. Just as the trainer is about to give up, he discovers Quill’s unique talent. When told to wait, Quill will stay calmly in the same spot for hours without moving.

Finally, Quill is teamed up with Mitsuru, who until now had always refused to have a seeing-eye dog. Little by little Quill starts showing his kindness to Mitsuru and eventually an incident occurs which causes Mitsuru to open up his heart and walk for the first time aided only by Quill. The bond between Quill and Mitsuru, who rediscovers the joy of life through Quill, grows deeper with each passing day. Until one day, they suddenly face a parting they could not have foreseen…
